Kim Long Motor and BYD Partnering on Battery Production in Vietnam

Vietnamese car manufacturer Kim Long Motor plans to build an electric vehicle battery factory in central Vietnam together with BYD from China. The investment is reported to be the equivalent of approximately 130 million US dollars. Kim Long Motor is said to finance the construction of the plant, while BYD will provide technical and technological support.

Initial capacity of three gigawatt-hours

Construction of the factory will take place within a Kim Long Motor industrial park. The first phase will cover around 4.4 hectares and have an annual production capacity of three gigawatt-hours. The plan is to manufacture batteries for electric commercial vehicles, including buses, trucks, and minibuses. Production will meet local demand and be exported to regional markets. In the second phase, the plant will expand to approximately ten hectares, with the capacity then doubling to six gigawatt-hours per year. There are also plans to manufacture batteries for electric pessenger cars in the future.
