Samsung SDI and South Korean car manufacturer KG Mobility (KGM) have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop new battery packs based on 46-type cylindrical cells. The goal is to advance battery technology for future electric vehicles and to integrate Samsungʼs 46 cells into future KGM vehicle platforms.
Joint research initiatives
In addition to technical development, the companies intend to share insights about the global battery market and launch joint research initiatives. Samsungʼs cells are based on high-nickel NCA cathodes and anodes made of silicon-carbon composite material. The design is intended to reduce cell swelling and increase service life. Additionally, a tabless design aims to optimize current flow and reduce internal resistance. Also, advanced manufacturing processes are said to have improved thermal stability.
