C4V to Source Synthetic Graphite from Vianode

U.S. battery developer C4V and Norwegian battery material manufacturer Vianode have signed a letter of intent for the supply of synthetic anode graphite for stationary battery storage systems. The goal is to establish a long-term purchase agreement that extends until 2032. Initial deliveries are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026. Vianodeʼs synthetic graphite will be used in battery cells for energy storage applications in North America.

Asia covers 95 percent of demand

The collaboration is in response to North Americaʼs current dependence on Asian players, who, according to the companies, supply more than 95 percent of the synthetic graphite for lithium-ion batteries. Therefore, Vianode and C4V intend to establish a regional supply chain for critical battery raw materials. The first production phase is planned for the Via ONE plant in Norway. Additional capacity will be added with the construction of the Via TWO plant in St. Thomas, Canada. Vianode states that its collaboration with C4V aims to expand its sales market beyond the electric vehicle sector.
