Gotion Starts Construction of Battery Factory in Slovakia

Chinese battery manufacturer Gotion High-Tech has begun construction on a production facility in Šurany, Slovakia. The investment is part of a strategy announced in December 2024 to increase production capacity in Europe. According to the company, the 65-hectare plant will be the first large-scale battery cell factory in the country.

Investments of more than one billion euros

The first phase is designed to have an annual capacity of 20 gigawatt-hours. Test production is scheduled to begin in 2026, with full production expected to start in 2027. The lithium-ion batteries manufactured there will be exported primarily to the European Union. The project involves an investment of up to 1.234 billion euros and is being carried out by the “Gotion InoBat Batteries EnergyX Slovakia” joint venture, in which Gotion holds an 80-percent stake while local company InoBat Auto holds a 20-percent stake. In September 2023, Gotion had already acquired a 25-percent stake in InoBat.

Comparable plant being built in Morocco

Meanwhile, Gotion is planning to build another plant in Morocco with comparable capacity. The project near the city of Rabat will be implemented by the “Gotion Power Morocco” subsidiary and will cost up to 1.28 billion euros.
