Group14 Acquires BAM Plant in South Korea, Secures Financing

Silicon battery manufacturer Group14 Technologies from the United States has completed a Series-D financing round worth 463 million US dollars. Led by South Koreaʼs SK Inc., the financihng included Porsche Investments, ATL, OMERS, and several climate funds. With the new capital, the company plans to expand production of its SCC55 silicon anode material in the United States and in South Korea. Simultaneously, Group14 acquired the remaining 75 percent of the Sangju plant, which it had operated in a joint venture with SK.

Capacity of ten gigawatt-hours

Established in 2021, the factory has supplied SCC55 to international battery manufacturers on an industrial scale since 2024. Through the takeover, Group14 now owns 100 percent of the shares, thus directly controlling production. The Sangju plant is Group14ʼs third commercial facility, with an annual production capacity of ten gigawatt-hours. The company supplies more than 100 customers in the electric mobility and consumer electronics sectors. Previously, SCC55 material was manufactured in Washington State, where Group14 operates two other plants. With the financing round now complete, the company has raised over one billion dollars in equity capital.
