German company BASF and Chinese battery manufacturer CATL have signed a collaboration agreement in the field of cathode materials. According to the contract, BASF will serve as an important supplier and support CATLʼs global expansion with its production network. The agreement builds on a partnership that began in 2021.
Battery recycling and CO₂-reduced CAM production
At that time, the focus was on establishing local value chains in Europe, particularly in battery recycling and CO₂-reduced cathode active material (CAM) production. BASF had announced that it would supply cathode materials from its European sites. The goal was to strengthen CATLʼs European cell production by using regional raw materials and recycling strategies. With the new framework agreement, the collaboration will expand beyond Europe to a global level.
