Chinese manufacturer Lead Intelligent Equipment (LEAD) will supply an end-of-line solution for FAAMʼs new plant in Teverola near Naples, Italy. The project involves the production of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells with an expected annual capacity of eight gigawatt-hours. The system is intended to automate the final steps of the cell production process.
Less energy during charging/discharging
The scope of supply includes equipment for electrolyte filling, forming, and final inspection. The system is based on direct current technology and is designed to reduce energy consumption during the charging and discharging processes. A new tray forming system with vacuum technology aims to significantly reduce the necessary clean room space. This results in lower investment as well as ongoing operating costs due to lower air conditioning requirements. Additionally, the system includes an integrated thermal management system that enables precise temperature control at cell level as well as a fire protection system.
Start of production in 2026
The new plant will be built on the same site where FAAM, a Seri Industrial S.p.A. company, already operates a small battery production facility with an annual capacity of 0.35 gigawatt-hours. The systems are planned to be installed in Teverola 2 in 2025, with production set to begin in 2026.
