Chinese battery manufacturer CATL has begun producing lithium-ion batteries at its new plant in Jining. The companyʼs first production plant in northern China will be put into operation in three phases. The first one is expected to reach an annual capacity of 60 gigawatt-hours and covers 530,000 square meters, 520,000 of which are dedicated to production halls and other buildings.
Planned expansion through 2026
The next two phases are scheduled to be commissioned in 2026 and 2027. CATL states that the planned industrial cluster will have an investment value of the equivalent of 14 billion US dollars. The company has not yet provided information on future total capacity nor on the chemistry or the format of the battery cells to be produced in Jining.
