Cologne-based start-up company “alteva” has closed a pre-seed financing round of 1.7 million euros. “High-Tech Gründerfonds” as well as “UnternehmerTUM Funding for Innovators,” “NRW.BANK” and several angel investors are participating in the financing round. Founded in 2023, “alteva” develops ultra-lightweight batteries that are particularly suitable for the electrification of aircraft, trucks, and other heavy-duty applications. The start-up intends to use the new funds to further develop and test its prototypes before potentially launching series production in the coming years.
Carbon material to reduce weight
Batteries for all-electric long-range vehicles or aircraft require high energy density combined with low weight. According to “alteva”, the company is developing a new carbon-based material that is up to three times lighter than existing battery technologies. The underlying technology is based on research conducted by the German Aerospace Center (DLR). Following successful trials with pilot customers, series production is projected within the next two to three years.
