Australian battery material manufacturer NOVONIX and Stellantis have entered into a binding purchase agreement for synthetic graphite. The contract covers a minimum quantity of 86,250 tons up to a target quantity of 115,000 tons over a period of six years from 2026.
Supplying Stellantis partners in North America
The synthetic graphite will be supplied to Stellantisʼ cell manufacturing partners in North America. Delivery is scheduled to commence on 1st January 2026, subject to NOVONIX meeting certain milestones including final qualification for mass production and meeting certain compliance criteria. Should NOVONIX fail to meet these requirements, Stellantis has the right to terminate the agreement.
NOVONIX expands its production capacity
NOVONIX intends to supply production from its Riverside facility and a planned expansion. According to the company, the Riverside facility will be the first large-scale production facility for synthetic high-performance graphite in North America. Production is expected to begin in 2025. Later, capacity is set to be increased to 20,000 tons per year. The company also plans to build a new facility in the southeastern US with an initial capacity of 30,000 tons per year which will later be expanded to 75,000 tons.
