Vianode Opens Synthetic Anode Graphite Plant in Norway

Battery materials manufacturer Vianode has opened Via ONE as its first commercial-scale production facility for synthetic anode graphite at its Herøya site in Norway. The production is considered a key for Vianodeʼs plan to establish itself as a leading supplier of anode graphite solutions to the automotive industry in North America and Europe.

90 percent fewer carbon emissions

The plant is equipped with four furnaces and is expected to produce 2,000 tons of synthetic graphite annually at full capacity. According to the company, this is equivalent to supplying 30,000 electric vehicles per year. Vianode considers its Via ONE plant as crucial for the further development and verification of its technologies as well as for qualification with potential customers. The company claims that its synthetic anode graphite has a 90 percent lower carbon footprint than conventional production methods. The Herøya plant is part of a multi-stage, multi-billion dollar investment program. By 2030, Vianode aims to supply battery materials for up to three million electric vehicles a year.
