Dürr AG has introduced a new system for simultaneous double-sided coating for use in battery production. The so-called GigaCoater is designed to enable manufacturers to process larger substrate widths at higher coating speeds. According to the company, a width of up to 1,200 millimetres can be achieved.
Compact design to reduce energy consumption
The GigaCoater combines two coating stations with a non-contact drying system. This compact design is said to save space and reduce energy consumption. According to Dürr, drying is contactless by means of air flotation, and the design helps to avoid effects such as edge curling, which promises a more uniform quality of the electrodes. Dürr claims that the integration of the coating and drying processes on one level enables savings in operating costs. These include lower energy requirements and less material waste. The compact design of the system also reduces labour requirements.
