Sigma Lithium Receives Financing for Second Factory in Brazil

Canadian company Sigma Lithium has received a binding commitment from the Brazilian development bank BNDES for a loan of the equivalent of nearly 90 million US dollars. The 16-year loan will be used to entirely finance the companyʼs second greenfield lithium concentrate plant in Brazil. Construction of the facility has already begun and is expected to be completed in the summer of 2025.

Process free of waste, chemical, water, and emission

The new plant will be located in the Vale do Jequitinhonha region of Minas Gerais. Sigma Lithium plans to use the new facility to increase its annual production of lithium concentrate from 270,000 tons to approximately 520,000 tons. The factory will focus on processes for the conversion of spodumene ore into high-purity lithium concentrate. According to the company, the process will be free of waste, chemical, carbon, water, and emission.
