Zeekr, the electric car brand of Chinese automaker Geely, has developed new lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries for its electric vehicles that enable 5.5C fast charging. According to the company, vehicles equipped with these batteries can be charged from ten to 80 percent within 10.5 minutes.
Improvements in material and technology
Geely claims improvements in materials and technology have enabled faster charging compared to conventional nickel-cobalt-manganese batteries. Zeekr stresses that the improved charging performance should also be possible at low temperatures thanks to an optimized battery management system. At minus ten degrees Celsius, a charge from ten to 80 percent is said to be possible within 30 minutes. These charging speeds were achieved in the automakerʼs new 007 Sedan model, which is equipped with the new batteries. First deliveries are scheduled for the end of August 2024.
More than 10,000 charging points in China by 2026
The high charging capacity is achieved at the companyʼs V3 ultra-fast charging stations. To date, more than 500 fast-charging stations have been installed with more than 2,700 charging points that support charging at 800 volts. The company plans to increase the number of stations to 1,000 by the end of 2024 and to operate more than 10,000 charging points by 2026.
