Slovakia Clears the Way for InoBatʼs New Gigafactory

The Slovakian government has signed an investment agreement with Gotion InoBat Batteries, a joint venture between Chinaʼs Gotion High-tech and Slovakian battery manufacturer InoBat. The battery factory is to be built in the town of Šurany. The project was first announced in 2023. Apart from battery production, a research and development center is also planned for the Slovakian site.

From 20 to 60 gigawatt-hours per year

After its full expansion, the plant is expected to have an annual capacity of up to 60 gigawatt-hours. However, the partners agreed upon 20 gigawatt-hours per year in the first phase, which is intended to be commercially operational in 2026. First construction works are scheduled to start before the end of 2024. In addition to the financial resources, the Slovakian government is also providing the construction site of more than 100 hectares.
