Italian company Comau is working with United States manufacturer Intecells to further develop the use of cold plasma in battery electrode production. The goal is to use cold plasma to streamline processes such as soaking and drying. Ultimately, they hope to develop an approach that can be integrated into existing production lines.
Shorter production time and greater safety
Unlike traditional methods, Intecells technology does not use solvents or binders, which is said to simplify the production process and have the potential to be more eco-friendly. According to the companies, their joint solution suitable for all common cell types and sizes could increase efficiency and improve quality, safety, and production time of battery cells. The partners expect these improvements to reduce investment volumes by up to 50 percent, as well as halve energy consumption and carbon emissions.
