ReElement Technologies, American Metals and Indian battery recycler LOHUM Cleantech have joined forces to build an integrated lithium-ion battery processing facility in the US. The factory will be built at the Marion Advanced Technology Centre in the state of Indiana, with an initial investment of more than 30 million US dollars.
Capacity of 15.5 gigawatt-hours
The facility will have an annual capacity of 15.5 gigawatt-hours and cover the entire value chain of battery recycling and materials processing. This includes the testing and separation of battery cells, the recycling and recovery of critical raw materials, and the production of battery materials.
Purity of neraly 100 percent
The materials produced are expected to have a purity of more than 99.5 percent, making them suitable for direct use in the production of new battery cells. The exact timetable for the construction and operation of the plant has not yet been announced. In the long term, however, the companies claim to be looking to expand beyond the Indiana site to increase capacity.
