Chinese battery manufacturer SVOLT will not realize its planned settlement in Lauchhammer in Lusatia, Germany. According to an official announcement, the company is giving up its site in Brandenburg. SVOLT claims this is due to uncertainties in the automotive market, drastic strategy adjustments by car manufacturers, and the loss of an important customer project.
Saarland site also uncertain
SVOLT produces lithium-ion batteries and battery systems for electric vehicles as well as energy storage systems. In the past, the company had announced plans to build battery factories in Germany for its European production. According to SVOLT, its site in Heusweiler, Saarland, will remain, but an already planned, second production facility there is uncertain. SVOLT Europe CEO Kai-Uwe Wollenhaupt said these steps would be necessary in order to become more resilient to market fluctuations. Originally, SVOLT was to settle on the former site of wind turbine manufacturer Vestas in Lauchhammer. The plans for this had been presented in the fall of 2022.
