Die Ford Motor Company, LG Energy Solution und die Koç Holding haben eine unverbindliche Absichtserklärung zur Gründung eines neuen Joint Ventures (JV) zum Bau einer Gigafactory in der Türkei unterzeichnet. Die Fertigung von Batteriezellen für Elektrofahrzeuge soll in der Stadt Ankara errichtet werden.
Wechsel der JV-Partner
Die Ankündigung bestätigt das zu Beginn des Jahres aufgekommene Gerücht, dass Ford seinen Partner für die Zellproduktion in der Türkei austauscht. Ursprünglich wollten Ford, Koc und SK On gemeinsam Lithium-Ionen-Batterien produzieren.
Gigafactory in der Nähe Europas
Bereits dieses Jahr soll der erste Spatenstich erfolgen. Die Produktion soll 2026 anlaufen, wobei sich die drei Parteien zu einer jährlichen Produktionskapazität von mindestens 25 Gigawattstunde verpflichtet haben, die auf bis zu 45 Gigawattstunden gesteigert werden könnte.
Mit dem JV knüpfen Ford und LGES an die bestehende Beziehung zwischen den Unternehmen an. Zuletzt lieferte LGES aus seinem Werk in Polen Batterien für den Ford Mustang Mach-E und E-Transit. Die Ford Motor Company und die Koç Holding unterhalten bereits ein gemeinsames Joint Venture „Ford Otosan“, das vor mehr als 60 Jahren gegründet wurde.
