Das global agierende Beratungsunternehmen McKinsey erkennt in einer aktuellen Studie, dass China derzeit der weltweit größte Markt für Elektroautos sei. Außerdem liefere die Volksrepublik die momentan beste Batterietechnik. McKinsey zieht seine Informationen dabei aus der Untersuchung von zehn chinesischen Elektroautos, die das Unternehmen bis hin zur Batteriezellchemie analysiert hat.
Ohne die im Detail untersuchten Fahrzeugmodelle zu nennen, gibt McKinsey an, die Marken Buick, BYD, GAC, Geely, JAC, Nio, Roewe, SAIC, Weltmeister sowie einen unbekannten weiteren Hersteller ausgewertet zu haben. Dafür habe das Beratungsunternehmen die Batteriepacks der Marken aus einem Produktionszeitraum von 2015 bis 2020 zerlegt und in verschiedenen Bereichen analysiert. Die chinesischen Hersteller liegen den Ergenissem zufolge in der Batterieproduktion vorne. Tesla, als heutiger Marktführer in China, war allerdings offenbar zu keinem Zeitpunkt Teil der Studie.
Effizientes Pack-Design
Wesentliche Merkmale der aktuell dominierenden Technik aus China haben sich laut McKinsey darin gezeigt, dass die dortigen Hersteller sowohl als erste die NMC-811-Zelltechnik als auch ein effizientes Pack-Design nutzten, um auf dieser Basis die Produktion und Leistung der Batterien zu verbessern. Unabhängig von der technischen Analyse ergänzt McKinsey, dass die Batterietechnik heute 35 bis 50 Prozent der Herstellungskosten des gesamten Elektrofahrzeuges ausmache. Demnach kann vor allem eine Optimierung in der Batterietechnik erhebliche Kostenersparnisse für das Elektroauto einbringen. Insgesamt sei der chinesische BEV-Markt seit 2014 um 80 Prozent gewachsen.
