Nachdem es in der nahen Vergangenheit immer wieder Gerüchte gab, dass auch Daimler künftig Kompetenzen zum Kreislaufprozess der Batteriezelle aufbauen wolle, bestätigt der Autobauer nun, dass er in das Batterie-Downstream-Geschäft einsteigen will. Hinter den Kulissen soll bei Daimler nach Medieninformationen bereits die Standortsuche zu einer ersten Batterierecyclinganlage laufen.

Wie es schon VW vorgemacht hat, will nun wohl auch Daimler im Rahmen des Recyclings von Batterien zuerst eine entsprechende Forschungs- bzw. Pilotanlage errichten. Im Gespräch steht dabei ein möglicher Standort in Gaggenau. Stark gemacht dafür habe sich in erster Linie Daimlers Gesamtbetriebsratsvorsitzender Michael Brecht, der in Personalunion auch Betriebsratschef im Werk Gaggenau ist. Brecht sprach schon im letzten Jahr von der Notwendigkeit einer Recyclinganlage für Altbatterien.

Das Recycling von Lithium-Ionen-Altbatterien ist generell ein zwangsläufig notwendiger Schritt, der aktuell in der Batterie Industrie deutlich forciert wird. Für Unternehmen der Batterieherstellung, aber eben auch OEMs, die immer mehr Kompetenzen im Bereich aufbauen, bietet das Recycling die Möglichkeit sowohl Kosten zu sparen als auch den gesamten E-Mobilitätsbestrebungen einen noch nachhaltigeren Prozess zu verleihen.
