Hyundai Motors muss weltweit Batteriepacks in 82.000 seiner Elektrofahrzeuge austauschen aufgrund eines bestehenden Risikos der Brandentwicklung. Nach Informationen der Nachrichtenagentur Reuters kostet dieser Schritt Hyundai $900 Millionen und sicherlich auch wichtiges Kundenvertrauen in seine Elektrofahrzeuge. Es zeigt, wie wichtig die Aufgabe eines ausgiebigen Testens von Batteriesystem in der Zukunft noch sein wird.

Von der vorhanden Brandgefahr der Batterien seien vor allem die Fahrzeugmodelle Hyundai Kona EV betroffen. Von der Aktion wurde bereits im Oktober des Vergangen Jahres das erst Mal Berichtet. Damals Betraf die Rückholaktion noch 51.000 Elektrofahrzeuge und ein Softwareupdate sollte die Lösung sein. Wie es sich jetzt herausstellt reichte dieses jedoch nicht aus, denn bei einem der zurück gerufenen Hyundais kam es im Januar trotzdem zum Batteriebrand, was zeigte, dass das Problem für Hyundai größer als gedacht ist.

Im Rahmen der aktuellen Problematik rückte auch LG Chems Tochter, LG Energy Solutions, in den Fokus. Im Raum steht, dass es einen Fehler bei den zugelieferten Batteriezellen gab. LG äußerte sich jedoch bereits zu dem Szenario und gibt die Schuld Hyundai, dass LGs Empfehlungen für die Fast-Charging Logik der Batterien missachtet hätte. Das inzwischen auch aktiv gewordene koreanische Verkehrsministerium sagte indes jedoch, dass in einigen Batteriezellen von LG Energy Solutions, im chinesischen Produktionsstandort, Fehler gefunden worden wären.

Der Vorfall zeigt sehr deutlich wie wichtig ausgiebige Testprozeduren bei Batteriesystemen sind. In Deutschland werden diese von zahlreichen Stellen, nach immer strenger werdenden Normen und Richtlinien, von Fachstellen wie dem TÜV durchgeführt, um sicherzustellen, dass hierzulande entwickelte Batteriesysteme sicher sind.
