Nach einem aktuell von SNE Research veröffentlichten Marktbericht hat es SK Innovation unter die Top 5 der weltweit größten Batterieproduzenten geschafft. Nachdem SK Innovation erst letztes Jahr zum ersten Mal unter den Top 10 war haben die Koreaner weiter rapides Wachstum gezeigt.

SK Innovation hat seine Batterieproduktionsleistung in den letzten Jahren massiv ausgebaut. Die erste Produktionsstätte des koreanischen Unternehmens ist im Seosan, Korea, beheimatet und eröffnete 2018 mit einer Produktionsleistung von 4,7 GWh. Im Jahr 2019 eröffnete das Unternehmen zwei weitere Produktionsstätten in Komárom, Ungarn und Changzhou, China, mit jeweils zwei Mal 7,5 GWh Produktionsleistung. In China erhöht SK Innovation schon in diesem Jahr die Fertigungsleistung von Batteriezellen auf 27,5 GWh in zwei Fabriken, während in Ungarn der Ausbau auf 17,3 GWh bis zum Jahr 2022, ebenso in zwei Fabriken vor Ort, abgeschlossen sein soll. Hinzu kommen zwei Fertigungsstandorte in Georgia, USA, in denen ab dem Jahr 2022 eine Produktionsleistung von 9,8 GWh und bis zum Jahr 2023 21,5 GWh erreicht werden sollen.

Ein besonders bemerkenswerter Fakt ist, dass SK Innovation es geschafft hat die chinesische Konkurrenz bei der Belieferung von Zellen für den chinesischen Autobauer Arcfox auszustechen. Die Batterien, die im Model Arcforx Mark 5 zum Einsatz kommen werden aus einem Joint Venture zwischen der Arcfox Mutter, der Beijing Automotive Group und SK Innovation im Werk in Changzhou entstehen.

Zusammengefasst wird SK Innovation nach heutigem Stand die Produktionsleistung von 19,7 GWh heute auf bis zu 71 GWh im Jahr 2023 ausbauen. Langfristiges Ziel des Unternehmens ist es unter die Top 3 im Batteriezellherstellermarkt aufzusteigen und bis zum Jahr 2025 die Marke von 100 GWh Produktionsleistung pro Jahr zur erreichen.
