VW startet mit der Weltpremiere des ID.3 in die Klimaneutralität. Liegen die Batteriekosten bereits unter einer wichtigen Kostengrenze?
Mit der Weltpremiere des ID.3 startet Volkswagen in den Elektroauto-Volumenmarkt. Die neue Elektro-Hoffnung von VW steigt mit knapp 30.000 € als Startpreis ein. Der Konzern preist besonders die CO2-Neutralität über die Lebensdauer an, die laut eigenen Angaben erstmals für Elektroautos erreicht werde. Über die VW-Tochter Elli wird dem Kunden direkt grüner Strom angeboten. Die Basisvariante hat mit einer Batterie von 45 kWh eine Reichweite von 330 km. In der größten Ausführung sind mit 58 kWh bis zu 420 km Reichweite möglich. Durch die Schnellladung ist der ID.3 innerhalb einer halben Stunde auf 290 km Reichweite geladen.

Laut der New York Times hat VW es geschafft, durch Skaleneffekte Batteriekosten von unter 100 US $ pro kWh zu erreichen. Um das Fahrzeug wirtschaftlich anbieten zu können, ist die Batterie als großer Kostenpunkt möglichst zu optimieren. Die Marke von 100 US $ pro kWh gilt als wichtige Grenze, da das Elektroauto ab diesen Kosten günstiger als das jeweilige Verbrennermodell wird. Eine McKinsey-Studie sieht diese Marke erst im Jahr 2030, Tesla möchte bereits im Jahr 2020 so weit sein. Aktuelle Batteriekosten von Tesla werden auf 111 US-Dollar pro kWh geschätzt. Von VW gibt es bislang keine offiziellen Zahlen.
